چکیده

Abstract Background Microalgae are well-established feedstocks for applications ranging from biofuels to valuable pigments and therapeutic proteins. However, the low biomass productivity using commercially available growth mediums is a roadblock its mass production. This work describes strategy boost algal by an effective CO 2 supplement. Results In present study, novel nanoemulsion-based media has been tested of freshwater microalgae strain Chlorella pyrenoidosa . Two different were developed 1% silicone oil nanoemulsion (1% SE) paraffin PE) supplemented in Blue-green 11 (BG11). After 12 days cultivation, yield was found highest PE followed SE control, i.e., 3.20, 2.75, 1.03 g L ?1 , respectively. The chlorophyll-a synthesis improved 76% 53% compared with control. respective microalgal cell numbers PE, control measured counter 3.00 × 10 6 2.40 1.34 cells mL absorption tendency emulsion highlighted as key mechanism enhanced On biochemical characterization produced biomass, it that nanoemulsion-cultivated C. had increased lipid = 26.80%, 23.60%) carbohydrates 17.20%, 18.90%) content (lipid 18.05%, 13.60%). Feasibility of cattle urine as nutrient medium for the microalgal biomass production

Thenutrient medium used for the cultivation of microalgae adds more cost to its value-added product as well as the commercial scale application. Therefore in this study, focused feasibility of cattle urine as a cheap source of nutrients for microalgal growth, because, it contains various minerals and economical which may support the growth of microalgae and reduce the medium cost. To check this...

A novel one-stage cultivation/fermentation strategy for improved biogas production with microalgal biomass.

The use of alga biomass for biogas generation has been studied for over fifty years but until today, several distinct features, like inefficient degradation and low C/N ratios, limit the applicability of algal biomass for biogas production in larger scale. In this work we investigated a novel, one-stage combined cultivation/fermentation strategy including inherently progressing nitrogen starvat...

Microalgal biomass production pathways: evaluation of life cycle environmental impacts

BACKGROUND Microalgae are touted as an attractive alternative to traditional forms of biomass for biofuel production, due to high productivity, ability to be cultivated on marginal lands, and potential to utilize carbon dioxide (CO2) from industrial flue gas. This work examines the fossil energy return on investment (EROIfossil), greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, and direct Water Demands (WD) of ...

Biomass and Neutral Lipid Production in Geothermal Microalgal Consortia

Recently, technologies have been developed that offer the possibility of using algal biomass as feedstocks to energy producing systems - in addition to oil-derived fuels (Bird et al., 2011, 2012). Growing native mixed microalgal consortia for biomass in association with geothermal resources has the potential to mitigate negative impacts of seasonally low temperatures on biomass production syste...

Superstructure optimization of biodiesel production from microalgal biomass

In this study, we propose a mixed integer nonlinear programming (MINLP) model for superstructure based optimization of biodiesel production from microalgal biomass. The proposed superstructure includes a number of major processing steps for the production of biodiesel from microalgal biomass, such as harvesting of microalgal biomass, pretreatments including drying and cell disruption of harvest...
